Can Tottenham win back Celtic manager Enze Postecoglou?
On March 27 (ET), Tottenham announced their parting of ways with Antonio Conte. The club’s previous coaching regimes under Christian Stellini and Ryan Mason have both failed. Spurs had fallen out of contention for a top-four finish and were now worried about qualifying for Europe.
In the two months that the team was in such disarray, Spurs conducted a managerial search. They were rumored to have been in contact with several candidates, including Julian Nagelsmann, but in recent days, the most likely candidate was Feyenoord boss Arne Slott.
However, once again, things didn’t work out in Spurs’ favor. Slott seemed to want to join Spurs, but he suddenly announced his decision to stay in Holland in an interview with Dutch publication AD Sport on Friday.
“I’ve heard a lot about other clubs being interested. I appreciate that, but my desire is to stay at Feyenoord and continue to build on the foundations we have laid in the last two seasons. There are no ongoing negotiations. The discussions have only been about a possible extension. I am looking forward to the new season at Feyenoord,” he said, confirming his stay at Feyenoord.
As if that wasn’t enough, Slott also signed a new contract with Feyenoord. “Coach Slott and Feyenoord have agreed to extend his contract until 2026,” Feyenoord announced on their official website on the 26th. The appointment of Slott is now off the table.
Back to square one, Tottenham are now looking for a manager from the existing pool of candidates. Postecoglou has emerged as the most likely candidate. Postecoglou is the man who brought Oh Hyun-gyu to Celtic. Under Postecoglou, Celtic have become the dominant force in Scotland.
After winning the league and League Cup last season, the Bhoys are on track to complete a domestic treble this season. It’s not just the results, it’s the quality. In 37 league games, Celtic have scored 109 goals and conceded just 34. That’s a staggering difference from their biggest rivals, Rangers. One of the foundations of Celtic’s strength is Postecoglou’s leadership 먹튀검증.
However, Postecoglou doesn’t seem to want to leave for Tottenham. “I’ve been asked a lot of similar questions, but what matters to me is the moment. I have nothing planned in my football career. My ambition now is to finish the weekend well, win the cup final and make it a special season,” he said, adding that he has no interest in taking over at Tottenham.
He added: “As a manager, you can’t plan a course to be at a certain club at a certain time. The only thing I know for sure is that I have to focus on the job at hand. My approach is to make sure I’m not thinking about anything other than what’s going to happen this week. That’s what the Celtic fans want, for the manager to focus on what’s important for the team,” he said, reiterating his commitment to focus on Celtic.
Despite both parties’ public statements about focusing on their clubs, British media outlets have been reporting that Tottenham are actively considering Postecoglou. “Postecoglou has emerged as a serious candidate after Slott decided to stay at Feyenoord,” the Evening Standard reported.
“The candidate who has now gained momentum is Postecoglou,” said The Athletic. Although he doesn’t have the glamorous profile of the other candidates, he has been linked with Tottenham repeatedly. Postecoglou has shown a natural talent for creating team dynamics and pulling supporters and the club in the same direction. This is exactly what Spurs are looking for this summer.”
