Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, 32, has moved to Saudi Arabia.

Algerian winger Mahrez arrived in England through Leicester City, having previously played for Kemer and Le Havre. He had three goals and five assists in 19 games in the second half of the 2013-14 English Championship season, and four goals and three assists in 30 games in the English Premier League (EPL) in 2014-15. He really broke out in 2015-16. Mahrez produced 17 goals and 11 assists and was part of the “title fairytale” alongside the likes of Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante.
With his stock rising, Mahrez spent two more seasons at Leicester before moving to Man City in the summer of 2018 for €67.8 million. Overall, he has been a consistent performer. In 236 official appearances, Mahrez has scored 78 goals and provided 59 assists, and has won four EPL titles, two English FA Cups, three English Football League Cups, two FA Community Shields, and one UEFA Champions League (UCL) title with the club. In the 2022-23 season, he also contributed to City’s high-flying campaign with 15 goals and 13 assists in 47 games across five competitions.
Mahrez received an offer from Saudi Arabia after the season. Saudi negotiators were in London in June to discuss a possible deal, and in time, an agreement was reached between the player and the club.
According to the UK’s The Athletic, the transfer fee is 35 million euros (about 49.5 billion won), with an add-on of 5 million euros (about 7 billion won), for a total of 56.5 billion won. In addition, the contract is for four years, with an annual salary of €29.2 million.
Al Ahli will play in Saudi Arabia’s top flight, the Professional League, starting next season after winning promotion in the 2022-23 season. The club brought in Edouard Mendy, Roberto Firmino, and now Mahrez in the summer transfer window.
