Ham Seo-hee (36) has revealed that she is willing to go toe-to-toe with Muay Thai world-class striking in her ONE Championship women’s mixed martial arts title bout with Asia’s largest organization.
Ham, ranked No. 2 in the official atomweight division, will face No. 1 Stamp Fairtex (26-Thailand), ranked No. 1 in the same division, in a ONE Championship interim championship bout on Sept. 30 at the Singapore Indoor Gymnasium (12,000 capacity) as the main event of ONE Fight Night 14.
ONE Fight Night 14 will air live on global OTT service Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET in New York City. In Korea, the event will be broadcast on Coupang Play.
In an interview with ONE Championship’s official website, Ham Seo-hee said, “Not only Stamp, but I am also proud of my outstanding striking. We are focusing on training so that we can showcase it in the title match.”
Stamp has won or finished on top of the ONE Championship atomweight crown in three different events: kickboxing champion in 2018, Muay Thai champion in 2019, and mixed martial arts title match in 2022.
Stamp is the first, and still the last, female One Championship champion in either sport. After falling short of the throne last year, she has another chance to challenge for the top spot in mixed martial arts. 온라인카지노
“Of course, Stamp’s Muay Thai strikes are powerful,” says Ham Seo-hee. He has also successfully transitioned to mixed martial arts,” she admits, but adds, “Mixed martial arts striking is different in distance and movement than stand-up striking. In this area, I am superior.”
She also has experience competing professionally as a stand-up striker, including a runner-up finish in a Japanese “shotboxing” tournament in 2011 and a quarterfinalist finish in 2012. It’s no wonder she has no fear of facing Stamp standing.
Seo is a world-class mixed martial artist, rated as the No. 1 in the world in the atomweight division through the third quarter of 2021. She proved it at ONE Championships by defeating the No. 3 ranked fighter in her weight class, Dennis Samboanga (26-Philippines), in consecutive rounds.
She dominated the Japanese scene as the 2013 and 2014 DEEP JEWELS and 2019 RIZIN champion. She is a legend in the top 30 when it comes to women’s MMA history.
“If I win the ONE Championship crown, it will be my last achievement as a mixed martial artist (in my late 30s), so this interim title fight with Stamp means a lot to me,” said Ham.
A win doesn’t mean she’ll retire immediately. “I want to stay at the top of ONE Championship for as long as possible and continue to compete against championship-level opponents,” said Ham, who also revealed her goals after winning the title.
